For a lucky family from Hillsboro, OH, near Cincinnati, their newly-adopted a dog from the local pound chased a burglar while he was breaking into their home.  Hercules, the canine security alarm, was adopted and brought home just 6 hours before his crime-fighting escapades began.

This amazing dog weighs 135 pounds and was slowly recovering from being attacked by coyotes. His new owner thinks that Hercules would have been able to catch the criminal, not just bite his leg as he scaled a fence, if he had been completely healed from his injuries. Hercules has the ability to leap over 6-foot tall fences and was very quiet and well-behaved until he sensed that the burglar was trying to break in.

Criminals like this unlucky Cincinnati-area burglar never know what obstacles face them when they attempt to break in to a home. This was a home that had been worked on for a while – the phone lines and cable lines were already snipped, and the basement door had been broken open.  Some thieves are easily scared away, while others are more persistent.

As for the Hillsboro family and their new celebrity dog, Hercules? They originally adopted him simply to prevent him from being euthanized until they found him a better home. They already have 4 other dogs, and didn’t think they could handle a fifth. After this incident, however, Hercules has a permanent home with the family.
